Hauser & Wirth Announces Hong
Kong Opening Date and Inaugural Exhibition Devoted to American Artist Mark Bradford.
Mark Bradford is one of the world’s
most prominent and critically-acclaimed contemporary artists. His densely
layered paintings and mixed media installations question America’s social
landscape, politics and cultural history through a rigorous physical and
material approach to the canvas.
This year Bradford was the
representative for the United States at La Biennale di Venezia 57th
International Art Exhibition. He has been much celebrated for his recent solo
exhibition, ‘Pickett’s Charge,’ a monumental commissioned cyclorama of
paintings at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in
Washington, D.C. At 400 linear feet of wall space, the work is Bradford’s
largest site-specific work to date. In 2015, Bradford presented ‘Tears of a
Tree’ at Rockbund Museum in Shanghai.
The opening of Hauser & Wirth
Hong Kong coincides with the week of Art Basel Hong Kong, in which the gallery
will also participate. Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong is co-directed by Vanessa
Guo and Lihsin Tsai, the gallery’s Senior Directors responsible for activities
in Asia.
