New Delhi, 30 Jan: India's premier, biggest, modern and contemporary art fair in New Delhi kicked
off with a rousing start on Thursday this week with hundreds of Indian and international
artworks throughout eighty five art galleries in 90 booths. Artworks on
contemporary themes like the devastation done by nature in Kashmir to major problem
of ‘sex slavery’ can be seen this year, in the 7th edition of India
Art Fair.
The overwhelming response of artists, galleries, collectors and art
lovers has established India Art Fair reputation at very high level and made it
one of the top most and most successful cultural events in South Asia, even on
business parameters.
In spite of global slowdown, Indian art market is expanding continuously,
for the past few years. Last month, Christie’s second auction in India had generated
$12 million and no
strange, IAF also witnessed business on the very first day.
“We've had five or
six sell-out booths and several galleries have done exceptionally well and response
of market is amazing” IAF founder director Neha Kripal says. She also explains
the reason
behind the
success of IAF.
Neha says,
“As more international fairs representing emerging markets are established, the
desire for collectors is not necessarily to follow the same artists and
galleries around the globe, but to engage at a deeper level with each region.
This is the approach that India Art Fair is embracing. It is the approach that
brings out the unique offering of India, thereby establishing India’s place on
the global art map.”
IAF is
scheduled to continue till February 1.
