On Sunday, the third edition of Art Basel’s show in Hong Kong opens to the public. Taking place in the HKCEC, the show presents 233 leading established and emerging galleries from across the world, with 50 percent having spaces in Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Insights
The Insights sector will be dedicated to curatorial projects by 34 galleries with spaces in Asia and the Asia-Pacific region and will feature solo shows, exceptional historical material, and strong thematic group exhibitions.

Discoveries
The Discoveries sector will present a particularly strong showcase of emerging artists from around the world with solo and two-person exhibitions presented by 20 galleries. This year, six of the 20 galleries will be new to the show. Art Basel and BMW are presenting the BMW Art Journey, enabling emerging artists to design a journey of creative discovery to a destination of their choice. The shortlist of artists from the Discoveries sector will be announced during the Hong Kong show.

Inaugurating this year’s conversations series is Chinese artist Cao Fei, whose multi-media practice explores the contemporary conditions in urban China, taking form in RMB City—a city the artist developed as the avatar “China Tracy” in the online world of Second Life. Leung Po-shan Anthony, Kurt Chan, Clara Cheung, Yuk Keong and Stephanie Sin will consider Hong Kong as a site of constant negotiation across all levels of society, from an artist community in Hong Kong operating as a limited company in order to qualify for official representation in local elections, to the building of theoretical university courses on public art. Renowned international Chinese artist Cao Fei will present a major new work during the 2015 edition of Art Basel in Hong Kong. Each night from March 13 to 17, Same Old, Brand New will be shown across the entire façade of Hong Kong’s iconic 490-meter-high International Commerce Centre (ICC) on the Kowloon harbor front.
Celebrating local and global art scene within the cultural fabric of Hong Kong, the Chai Wan Mei Arts & Design Festival, will take place on Saturday between 11am and 9pm and Sunday between 11am and 7pm at various locations. Please visit www.chaiwanmei.org for further information.
