56th EDITION OF NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF ART BEGINS IN NEW DELHI

The Lalit Kala Academy unveiled its 56th National Exhibition of Art yesterday wherein it awarded 15 artists with national awards for their contemporary art works.

The award winners are; Ajay Kumar Kanwal (Vadodara), Avni Bansal (Delhi), Bharath Sayam (Secunderabad), Chandan Agrawal (Lucknow), Jyotirmay Dalapati (Kolkata), L. Raja (Vadodara), Madan Kisan Pawar (Thane), Manjunath V. Kalledevar (Bengaluru), Mithilesh Choubey (Mumbai), Murugan Thangaraj (New Delhi), Ramkumar. K (Chennai), Roy Sarat (Jalpaigurai), Soghra Khurasani (Vadodara), Suvajit Mondal (Santiniketan), Vijay Pichumani (Chennai).

Prof. Lokesh Chandra, President, ICCR  blessed all the awardees at the inaugural ceremony of the National Exhibition of Art held at Meghdoot Open air theatre, Rabindra Bhavan complex with Copper Plaque and a certificate. The award carries a Prize Money of Rs.1.00 lakh also.

A Jury consisting of Anupam Sud, Parthiv Shah, Paula Sengupta, Soumik Nandy Majumdar, G. Ravinder Reddy and Justin Ponmany decided the National Akademi awards. The Jury selected the awardees out of 218 works selected from 6100 entries submitted by 2344 artists.

The academy has now 220 artists from all over the country to conclave where the art lover can have their own narration of various visual art forms, from folk and tribal to modern and contemporary in Ravidra Bhavan.
The selection of works for display in the 56th National Exhibition of Art is done by D.L.N. Reddy, Asish Kumar Das, Sachin Karne and Vishwanath Lakra. The works of art in the National Exhibition of Art contain photographs, paintings, sculptures, installations and graphic prints.
The Jury selected the works considering their challenging content, epitomizing creative features, individual commitment, discriminating quality of methods, materials used and more, so that the exhibition becomes a true representation of the dimensions of contemporary art thinking nationally. 

The National Exhibition, a prestigious event of the Akademi has been concentrating upon promoting artists and art all over the country. Indian artists from all states and styles can participate in it. 

The 56th National Exhibition of Art of the Akademi has organised in Delhi as a part of celebration of its 60th anniversary.
